History of Brown soil slope, Trapreang Roung Eco Tourism site,Koh Kong district, Koh Kong province

(Written by Ty Theavy edited Alex Dedman and Christopher Copeman from UK)
This place is called the slope of the brown soil. It is about 2 Km from Phnom Roung. Phnom Roung is a mountain with a big cave inside. The local people always come here to collect the resin from the Rong tree (to seal their boats) and to catch fish. The resin collectors and fisherman tell us that they always used to see elephants here, but since 2006 the elephants have disappeared. This place is regarded as a very sacred and holy place because it is said that anyone who came here and spoke impolite words, always got lost on their way home. So you should only speak good words here. Some hunters said they would ask the spirit for permission when they needed to go to the toilet. When they cooked food, they would always prepare some extra food to offer to that jungle spirit.
