This rapid flows down from Puosat province. It is
called Kbal Kampong rapid. Kampong is the Khmer language. It means a wharf
where a fisherman and a non- timber forest collector land their boat.
In the 1990s, it was also an important wharf
where the Khmer Rouge rebels brought supplies for their guerrillas. Local
people said there were people from every part of Cambodia living here involved
in the timber industry. At that time this area looked like a modern city. “Here
was the place easy to be shot to death,” said a local.
After this anarchic deforestation was prohibited,
this place became an attractive area for tourists to visit. The locals
always come here by boat, especially around Phchum Ben day and Khmer New Year.
It is about 3 hours from Trapenag Roung
down river if you come here by boat.
One more thing, this camp site was developed and
built by committees from Trapeang Roung CBET in January, 2012.
