History of Prek Prorng Waterfall, Trapeang Roung Eco Tourism site, Koh Kong district, Koh Kong province

(Written by Ty Theavy edited Alex Dedman and Christopher Copeman from UK)
This waterfall is called “ Prek Prorng”. We don’t know the meaning of this name. Some villagers said it probably is called Prek Prorng because this area is rich in the kind of tree called Prorng in Khmer. However, some people said here was the place people from France used to camp. So it is called Prorng because it sounds similar to the word “France” as the locals pronounced it in Khmer.
In the 1990s at this site, most of the trees were felled.  The villager said during that time, this area was occupied by Khmer Rouge guerrillas.  This water is currently an attraction site for tourists to swim, and to watch birds and monkeys. The majority of the tourists that come here like trekking and mountain biking.  This waterfall is about 15 meter high. Its water flow is strong during the rainy season from May to October.
