(Written by Ty Theavy, edited by Louisa Lopez from England)
This road is called the national road number 48. It is linked from the junction road number 4 at Sre Ambel to Koh Kong provincial town. Previously this road was called the national road number 17, constructed in 1967 by Somdach Chakrey Nhek Chumlong, paid for by King Norodom Sihanouk, but later on it was reconstructed in the 2000s.
At that time, it was constructed in 2 steps. The first stage was from 2002 to 2004, and it was built by Thai engineering constructors. The second stage was from 2004 to 2008 and was built by a Thai construction company called Sahakan. This contract was bid for by many other companies consisting of Japanese and Khmer private construction companies and one of the rock lancing company. The road was finished in 2008 and opened by the Cambodia Prime Minister. This money to build this road was donated by the Thai government.
