This place is called Prek Tachan. Prek mean channel.
Tachan is the name of the old age person who lived here. This is an important
harbor for the boats from Thailand, as they transfer goods into the trucks to
take to Phnom Penh.
In the 1980s there was a Vietnamese troops' barracks
here, to help support the Khmer Rouge rebels. Some people called this area Kom
Pung Phdao (a harbor for rattan) because the boats that load the rattan always
stop here.
This was also the place where the construction parts of
Trapeang Roung Bridge were brought.
This place has its own story told by local people: Long
ago there was an old person called Tachan, and him and his family lived and
farmed here. So this place is called Prek Tachan since then, even though that
eighty year old person left to move to Phnom Penh.
