This monastery is simply called Trapeang Roung, but it
has an official name as Roung Kirri Sothea Ram. Roung Kiri means the mountain
cave in English. Sothea Ram means the place where religious ceremonies are
held.
Every year there is a special time called Lenten
Practice, which lasts for 3 months, and every monk must come and study and
pray, and not leave the pagoda. Most of the monks are from the villages
nearby.
Previously, this monastery had no monks, but later on a
monk came from Veal Rinh to be a chief monk here. Then there were many monks.
The villagers say this pagoda was rebuilt in 1972.
This pagoda celebrates the religious Phchum Benh
ceremony every year. In this 15 day ritual there are a lot of participants.
Villagers get together each day to cook for and support the monks. At night
everybody comes to dance and buy snacks.
