This field is about 9 kilometers long and 2 kilometers
wide. This field has different names, some call it Veal Dorng Tung, and others
say Veal Chhke Sngab. This field was a battle ground for Siamese and Khmer
soldiers in the French colonial rule. The French army also fought here with
Siamese in 1948. This village was used as the fighting place between Khmer
Rouge rebel and Vietnamese soldiers in the 1980s as well.
People say that field gets it's name because of many
villagers take dogs to hunt wild animals around here. One time in the dry
season the dog became very tired from the hot weather and stopped barking and
looking for wildlife, instead becoming silent.
Silent in Khmer language is Sngat, so the field was
called Veal Chhke Sngat from then on. Veal is the field. Chhke is the dog.
