This waterfall gets its name from its shape.
Pichorn means 'two floors, or two steps'. Before the waterfall was
discovered by the research group from the CBET, nobody was interested in it,
and there was no easily walkable trail to go and visit it.
The very best time to visit the waterfall is in October
when the rainy season is at its height, and at this point the entire fall is
covered in water. The rainy season begins in May and ends in October, so
these are all excellent times to visit. However even in the dry season there
is still some water, and it is still very beautiful at this time.
In the rainy season there are a lot of fish by this
waterfall, and also other wildlife live nearby, so hunters always used to camp
nearby, and set up traps. However, now these activities are illegal.
Entrance to the Pichorn Water fall
This road was used by trucks that carried the many logs
that were cut down in the period of the 1993-7, after the first election in
Cambodia, because at this time the government had no control over people's
activities. Later on from 2001 -2004, this road was used as the entrance to
pump water from the stream and used to help build the national road. So to get
to Pichorn waterfall we can drive the car about 1 kilometre from the national
road No 48 to reach the stream and then continue by foot through the jungle
where the hunters used to trap wild animals, reaching the waterfall after about
1 hour of walking.
