Chhay Thurian or Chay Chrey (Durian Rapid)

Written by Ty Theavy)

Fewer people come to swim at this rapid because it is much further from Chi Phat than Chhay Ors Kuot. You reach it by crossing Chhay Ors Kuot and continuing for about 500 metres. The complex around here was the durian farm which grew many durian trees in Sang Kum Reas Niyum regime (when King Sihak Nouk was in power, 1954- 1970). Some people call this rapid Chhay Chrey because it has a big Chhrey tree by its bank. A group of 80 students from Royal University of Phnom Penh planned to camp here in 2008.
However, they did not stay overnight because the rapid’s spirit disturbed them and scared them by possessing the soul of a student. They were so afraid of the rapid's spirit that they left at once to camp in the Chi Phat village near the CBET office. The people here strongly believe in this case because, much like at Chhay Ors Kut, they know that if they do not follow the spirit the peace and harmony of their lives will be disturbed.
