History of Domnak Phnhiev,Trapeang Roung Eco Tourism site, Koh Kong district, Koh Kong province

(Written by Ty Theavy, edited by Jessica Hermsen from Holland)
This is a dwelling place for hunters. It is called Damnak Prean. Dom Nak is the Cambodian language. It means the dwelling in English. Prean means the hunters who stay overnight here. This shelter is not only for the hunters, but it was also used for the loggers during deforestation time in the 1990s. So since then this place was changed to the name Domnake Phnhiev. Phniev means the guests because; at that time the loggers did not come from surround here, but they came from Combodiawide. This place is 5 Kilometers from the mountain cavern of Roung Phnom. It is a good place for the hunter because there is available water to use in all seasons from a stream nearby. Some villager said that this place have been utilized for a long time. He said that a long time ago there was an old age person camped at this place to farm a Cannabis indica platation nearby. But later on this planting is prohabited because Cannabis indica is the raw material which can be produced into the addictive drug. This dwelling place called Domnak Phnhiev because some people see that around here there are a lot of Burmese grape trees. Burmese grape also means Phnhiev in cambodian language. In this place you can see elephants as well.
