History of Trapeang Thmor, Chi Phat Eco Tourism site, Tmar Bang district, Koh Kong province

(Written by Ty Theavy)

This campsite was built in July, 2011. It was constructed by 14 volunteers from a university in England. It took 1 week to build it. The camp was built for tourists’ shelter to keep an eye on an elephant nearby because this area is a known elephant trail. The former hunter says the elephants always come for food and drink here. There are also Sambar and Red Muntjac here. This site is called Trapeang Thmor in Cambodian language. Trapeang means a pond in English. Thmar means a rock. Trapeang Thor is a pond with the rock inside. This area is situated 3 Kilometers from another pond called Trapeang Kit. Right there is full of wildlife as well. To see the wild animals we go to the pond from this campsite about 3 meters long. The pond there is water for animals to drink all year round.  The best time to see the animals is during the evening.  The villager says most of the elephants walk here across the site Trapeang Kit from O’ Sralao.
