This field is
called Veal Meas. It is related to the legend of another field nearby called
Veal Prak. Meas and Prak are the expensive jewelers in Cambodia. Meas in
Cambodian language means Goal in English and Prak means Silver. The
legend said:
300 or 400
years ago there was a minority tribal man who lived and farmed in the area. He
was told in his dream to dig for the gold treasure and jewelry buried in the
field. Oral histories report that the minorities were taken prisoner to become
slaves, killed in Thailand in the Khmer-Thai wars. This site was used for a
whereabout of the Khmer Rouge rebel during 1979 to 1996 as well.
